Rivers   (print)

Here at Whitewater Training we seek to inform kayakers on the rivers in Southern Africa. We hope this information will prove useful in planning trips that both meet your skill level and budget.

Much of this information comes from input from kayakers who know the river at all levels. Also a great resource for this database has been Celliers Kruger's Run the Rivers of Southern Africa, which is a comprehensive guide to most rivers in the southern tip.

 Rapids

Addresses all rapids one will encounter on a particular river. Assesses difficultly through the entire range of water level, and will give class, distance from put-in, classification of rapid. Your input is greatly appreciated.

 Access

Locates the available access of a particular river. Most importantly where, but also the relevant costs involved, or courtesies one must know prior to launching. Finally this table will indicate the side of the river the access point is on and the distance from the start of the section.

Operators

Look for the local operators listed under each specific river. These establishments will be able to help with up to date river conditions and also porvide some helpful hints to make your trip go as smooth as possible.

Accommodation

Most do not have the luxury of living close to a variety of rivers. For all of us weekend warriors, we have sought to provide a complete package of local stays to meet any paddler's needs. From camping, to full service resorts, this section will identify the location, type, and starting cost of each establishment.

If you have any pics, videos or articles of trips that you have done please contact us at

We want to create a visual reference on South African rivers so ANY input is welcome!
